The morning began with a continued cross-examination of Dr. Bardey, a forensic psychiatrist and expert witness testifying on behalf of defendant Kevin Spacey.
The bulk of Dr. Bardey’s testimony centered around Dr. Rocchio’s PTSD diagnosis of Mr. Rapp. (Dr. Rocchio is Mr. Rapp’s expert witness)
Dr. Bardey noted inconsistencies between Mr. Rapp’s lifestyle and Rocchio’s assessment, specifically that Mr. Rapp has “done well for himself,” referencing his “successful career” and “good marriage”—elements inconsistent with PTSD to the severity noted by Rocchio.Embed from Getty Images
Dr. Bardey also addressed comments made earlier by Rapp about how he felt participating in a Zoom deposition, which Mr. Spacey also attended.
Mr. Rapp said that giving his deposition “in front of” Mr. Spacey (via Zoom) was deeply upsetting. Dr. Bardey confirmed that Mr. Rapp had the option to have opted not to see Mr. Spacey via Zoom (by turning off the Gallery View)—something Mr. Rapp did not do.
Dr. Bardey noted additional examples of behavior, such as attending in-person proceedings at which large numbers of the press were in attendance, to also be incongruous with a PTSD diagnosis.
Bardey clarified that Rapp’s repeated retelling of the Spacey allegations to friends over the years —but not to his therapist until after he made his claims public—was “proof” of a “narcissistic tendency” to turn the “spotlight” on himself.
Steigman, attorney for plaintiff Rapp, in a final show of frustration—or desparation— asked, Bardey, if there “narcissists who become A-list actors and win Tonys and other awards?,” in an apparent reference to the Tony and Oscar winning defendant Spacey.

The remainder of today’s session was a back-and-forth from both sides, countering and attempting to clarify or invalidate statements made by Dr. Bardey.
When there were no more arguments to make, the defense rested its case
And that’s, folks, is all she wrote.
Closing arguments will take place tomorrow morning, after which jurors will begin deliberations.
Whether they will reach a decision quickly remains to be seen.
Final tally: no change
KEVIN SPACEY-ANTHONY RAPP TRIAL UPDATE: DAY 8—SPACEY 5; RAPP 2
Today was really the completion of yesterday’s events, without a clear-cut ‘winner’ or ‘loser’ to the day’s efforts. I’ll leave the score as it is, until tomorrow.
